Hello,
My wife and I have lived in and around Lonoke County and Lonoke city for over 20 years. We have moved to other states occasionally but we always come back. It is just a great place to live.
We take our grandson to the annual fishing Saturday at Joe Hogan Hatchery and he loves it just as all the other kids and parents. I can't help but wondering if this could be expanded into more than one day for our kids. It is not usual to see kids fishing in ditches around here for little bream, crawdads, or turtles. Wouldn't it be nice if they had a city pond that was stocked with fish for them. No one over 16 allowed to fish, so the kids that have no transportation to go somewhere else would have access all through the summer months. Adults could accompany the kids but not actively fish. One pole per child and use barbless hooks. Catch and release only, this would be to preserve the fishing except for special outing days that could be set up to allow say 3 fish to be taken home.
You could set up fishing clubs with different age brackets and handicaps for scoring. This would be one method of organizing the kids and teaching fishing skills. Things that would attract kids and keep them out of mischief. I
am sure with as many grandparents in our community we could come up with lots of volunteers to help manage and develop an endeavor like this for our children.
Thanks for your ear, and your great site!
